What is the 00.7% Solution?

Ours is the first generation which can end world poverty!

Recognizing that fact, in September 2000 the nations of the world agreed to create the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in order to practically address the eight biggest threats to human security in the world today. Their unanimous pledge to support the goals was reaffirmed at the United Nations Summit in September 2005.

0.7 refers to the commitment of the world's governments to give 0.7% of rich-countries' gross national product (GNP) to developing countries.

It calls on every government, every church, mosque, synagogue or civic group, every individual, every family to contribute 0.7% of their annual budget or income to the cause.

What are the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)?

1) Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger

2) Achieve universal primary education

3) Promote gender equality and empower women

4) Reduce child mortality

5) Improve maternal health

6) Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases

7) Ensure environmental stability

8) Develop a global partnership for development
